Hello, this is Dr. Yechan Yoo from Rodam Korean Medicine Clinic Daegu branch.
Scars on the skin can cause not only cosmetic concerns but also psychological burdens.
In particular, shingles scars or depressed acne scars are often difficult to recover from naturally, leaving many people worried.
In this post, I would like to talk about the treatment methods for depressed shingles scars,
especially focusing on cases treated with Coratherapy.

After 3 sessions of Coratherapy
Case :: Depressed scar on the forehead caused by shingles
History :: No prior treatment history
Report :: 7 sessions of Coratherapy performed
Shingles is a condition that causes extreme pain along with blisters on the skin.
After the blisters form, scabs develop, and scars often remain where the scabs fall off.
Particularly, scars on exposed areas like the face or forehead are more noticeable,
causing significant concern for many people.
Shingles scars are generally wider and deeper than chickenpox scars or acne scars,
making them more visible in appearance.
Deep and large scars can cause the skin surface to become uneven, accompanied by redness or discoloration.
Such scars may become more pronounced over time,
so receiving appropriate treatment early on is very important.
In this patient’s case, the shingles scar had developed about three months prior,
leaving red marks, a rough surface texture, and progressing discoloration.
Although the scar was relatively deep, the patient visited us before it fully settled,
allowing us to start treatment promptly.
For effective treatment, we decided to proceed with 8 sessions of Coratherapy.

5th session

From the 3rd session onward, the scar became noticeably smoother overall,
and the previously dark red appearance had lightened to just redness.
By the 5th session, the depression was barely noticeable.
From this point, the treatment focused on blending the scar with the surrounding skin for a more natural appearance.
To reduce the discoloration and rough texture,
we adjusted the treatment plan to include Coratherapy along with additional skin refinement procedures.

7th session

The final appearance after the 7th session.
No noticeable unevenness or depression remained.
Although I recommended an 8th session to further blend the scar with the surrounding skin,
the treatment was concluded after 7 sessions due to the patient’s schedule.
While minor depressions remained, the patient was satisfied with the results, making it a successful case.

Delaying scar treatment can make scars more difficult to treat as they fully settle into the skin, so it is best to consult a specialist and create a treatment plan as soon as possible.
Even for older scars, improvement is possible with treatment, so don’t give up and actively seek professional care.
Shingles scars can become deeper and wider if left untreated, but with early and appropriate treatment, they can recover to the point of being barely noticeable.
If you are concerned about scars, I recommend visiting a professional medical institution for a consultation as soon as possible.
I hope this post has helped alleviate some of your concerns about scars.
